Area rugs can hold a lot of dust within their fibers. Some rugs get heavy amounts of daily foot traffic. Rugs are usually a headache to clean and are quite often put to the bottom of the list of household chores. Along with regular vacuuming, rugs should be taken outside and beaten to get rid of dust and debris. A good steam cleaning also does rugs well in keeping them odor free and attractive.

Light fixtures are barely cleaned and can hold onto a lot of dust. More intricate chandeliers need to be taken apart and the crystals should be cleaned in a mild detergent to keep them sparkling, ceiling fan blades need to be dusted to prevent build up and sconces should be wiped down.

Drapes, window shades and blinds all should be on the list when doing spring cleaning. Curtain materials are notorious for holding onto dust causing dust allergies in homes. For spring cleaning take down any fabric curtains and wash and dry them before hanging them up. Other window coverings should be dusted regularly.

Tough Items to Clean After a House Party

The last thing you want to do after prepping for and attending your holiday house party is clean, but it must be done! Here are a few items you'd want to take extra care in cleaning after a house or dinner party.

Fancy China or dinnerware :  China dinnerware is famous for being beautiful additions to any dinner party. People often only use their best plates at holiday parties for their friends and family. You should pay extra attention to cleaning these items, especially if they have gold or thin decorations. Be careful with the temperature you wash China with as it has a tendency to crack, also don't stack China to avoid chipping. Never use abrasive cleaners and never let China come in contact with aluminum to avoid gray stains.

Silverware: Wash silverware by hand with gentle dish soaps and thoroughly dry them with a soft drying cloth. Store your silverware in sealed plastic bags and in a dry area to avoid tarnishing.

Spills: There's always at least one spill at every dinner party. Be sure to act fast, dry up the spill as soon as possible and treat it depending on the content of the spill.
